and nobody expected the end of the guild. Except about at least five people before. Like when we didn’t want to merge on Underworld. Like when we moved to Piken Square. Like when we re-started PPT or started GvG, or ended GvG or a million other things.
Guilds are fragile. They are built on ideas. This person has one idea, that one another idea. If you take a bunch of nerds and throw them into the mixer, you will get a blend that could be a delicious Long Island Ice Tea, or more likely you will end up with a Bloody Marry.
Swords of Underworld is no different. It is built on ideas too. What is different though is that it is not an idea of a single person. It is based on ideas of a few people. The people were exchanged over the course of time, but the ideas (or ideals if you will) stayed. The ideas found a fertile ground in the player base of the guild. They have grown and matured. They have withered with the desolate soil too. They live, but they do not flourish anymore.
We have waited for the rain to save us and in the end it didn’t come. You can use all the fertilizers, but if the water doesn’t come to do its magic, you are done for. And we didn’t grow cactuses that require little to no water. Well, mostly. Some of the prick(l)y “flowers” were a part of our journey, but they didn’t take root for long.
Especially in this age of internet rage, I greatly admire the sportsmanship and the values SWD members have displayed and upheld for over a year. Call us carebears and old farts and what you want, but this is what I would like the modern gamer to look like. I am really proud of the collection of individuals with so many different upbringings and life stories concentrated in one spot. Dedicated to brightening each other’s day. As in the end, it was mostly about “the guy next to you” as explained in a war movie I forgot the title of.
We will meet new friends, form new alliances and lend our steel and magic to another “lord”, but there will be memories of what we did together that will take time to fade or will never do. We all grew together and experienced so much in over a year that it’s hard to believe it happened. It’s hard to believe it ends too.
Sword is love. Sword is life.
